Welcome to the Quiet Ambition newsletter - a place where we… 💫 stop holding (ourselves) back on ambition and personal growth 💫 define, build and own a meaningful legacy 💫 make the impact we’re meant to make On our terms. Without fuss. And without selling souls. OPEN the STUDIO DOORWe don't only teach what we intend to teach. We teach what we model. What we absorb and repeat. What we carry without realizing we're carrying it. What we pass forward before we've had a chance to examine whether it should go. This week, as we approach the end of the The Switching Tax series - the inheritance question. Not what you're teaching your family, children, team, community, or students about switching. But what was taught to you - what you absorbed, what you repeated, and what you're choosing to pass on with more intention. What’s happening in the studio today?
The studio is open - let's begin. WARM UPBefore we dive into today's work, let's warm up. What have you absorbed from someone who modeled something for you - and are you passing it forward intentionally, or by default? The relay doesn't stop. We just choose what we carry, what we pass on, and what we discard. POSTED NOTESThis distinction is everything. What your teachers, mentors, and parents left behind for you - skills, opportunities, resources - those are gifts. What they left behind in you - values, the way you work, the way you show up, the standards you hold, the taxes you pay without realizing - is the inheritance shaping your choices and path. The Switching Taxes aren't just habits you developed. For most of us, they were… 💫 Modeled 💫 Absorbed 💫 Carried forward Without examination. What has been left in you? And what’s left unexamined? THE MARQUEE💫 Quiet Ambition Catalyst Coaching Three questions. Sixty minutes. Clarity on what matters most. An exemplary artist and teacher. Relentless but deeply encouraging to her students. A creative thinker. A peacekeeper. A woman of extraordinary taste - in art, in home, in the details of life. Someone who handled the costume design, repairs, the logistics, the musicians, the dancers - everything required to bring productions to life. She always seemed to have it together. At an exceptional level. It was years before I had the courage to ask her how she did it… and how she felt about it. Her answer has stayed with me ever since. "I did it because I wanted to. I did it because I could. I did it because I had to. I did it because others trusted me. I did it because I had support." And then, quietly: "I also never thought not doing it was an option."I had been watching her for years. Learning from her. Absorbing everything she modeled - the capability, the excellence, the ability to hold it all without appearing ruffled. What I didn't see was the cost. What the switching - between roles, tasks, contexts, registers - was taking from her. She never showed it. And so I learned, without anyone telling me, that you don't show it. That you can do it all. That keeping your head on straight while managing everything is simply what is expected of those who are trusted with much. I absorbed the capability. I didn't see the price. My father was another teacher. His lessons were different, but equally embedded. 💫 If you have something to offer - a way to help, a way to be useful - do it. 💫 No work is beneath you. 💫 Aspire for excellence. 💫 Cultivate humility. 💫 Keep your word. 💫 Work hard. These values shaped me in ways I'm still discovering. I carry the genuine humility he modeled with gratitude, appreciation, and admiration. But there was a lesson I didn't learn from watching him - one he perhaps never modeled, or one I flat out missed. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should be the one doing it.That gap - between can and should - has cost me significantly in task and context switching. The humility as a strength also makes it hard to let go, to delegate, to say, “This isn't mine to carry.” Not because it's beneath me. Because someone else should carry it so I can focus on what only I can do. I didn't learn that boundary from watching. And so I didn't draw it for myself. What gets passed forward isn't always what we intend to pass. My guru didn't intend to teach me that you're not allowed to have a break. My father didn't intend to make it hard for me to delegate. They were modeling their own best understanding of how to show up - with excellence, with humility, with full commitment. And I absorbed it all. The gifts and the costs. The strength and the shadow. That's the inheritance. Not what they left behind for me. What they left behind in me. I'm still figuring out what I want to pass forward with intention. But I'm making more conscious choices now than I used to. More conscious choices about task and context switching - what I take on, what I set aside, what I allow others to carry. Slowly learning that protecting my time for the work only I can do isn't a betrayal of the humility I inherited. It's an evolution of it. What I want to leave behind in people in my tiny sliver of the universe isn't the ability to do it all without showing the cost. It's the permission to name the cost. And the wisdom to decide what's worth paying. What was modeled for you, and what are you choosing to pass forward? COOL DOWNTo COOL DOWN today - Can you take 30 seconds to hit REPLY and share one thing that was modeled for you that you're still carrying - intentionally or not? I’d really love to hear from you, every message matters. Warmly, STUDIO VIBE
